Reflections are presented on the interaction between hatred, democracy, and the concept of intrinsic value in ethics, drawing inspiration from Guillermo Lariguet’s work El odio y la ira. Furias desatadas en la democracia actual (Hatred and Rage. Furies Unleashed in Current Democracy). In contrast to Lariguet’s approach, which he terms “critical”, “reflective”, or “categorical” morality, based on universal, objective, and absolute moral principles, this paper explores the idea that it might be advisable to adopt an alternative framework for applied ethics which, without denying the existence of objective moral values, remains agnostic towards them, seeking a common conciliatory ground between moral realism and positions like moral error theory and subjectivism, which question the existence of absolute moral facts and truths.
