Del otro lado del canal: Libertad y Democracia en Atenas desde la perspectiva de John Stuart Mill

El artículo explora la lectura que hizo John Stuart Mill sobre la experiencia democrática ateniense. Examina el lugar que el mundo griego ocupó en su vasta producción y analiza, puntualmente, la concepción de libertad que Mill creyó encontrar entre los griegos, las bondades que supo reconocer en su ordenamiento institucional y su opinión sobre el carácter agonístico que signó su vida social y política. Sugiere que el modelo ateniense es utilizado por Mill como un espejo frente al cual es posible contrastar la sociedad moderna y constituye un ejemplo que encarna, al menos en parte, sus anhelos de una sociedad libre y democrática.
