Abstract

In this paper, I offer 10 kinds of responses to the critical comments on my book, Hatred and Anger, made by nine respondents. To this end, I divide my response into various problematic aspects in order to determine my position and how it differs from the criticisms I have received. Thus, among other things, I address my normative and ideological commitments, why I characterize cases of hatred and anger in a certain way, and how I define these emotions. Broadly speaking, my position attempts to show that the conceptual differences between hatred and anger must be able to explain practical differences at the level of political, moral, or legal discussion.

Author Biography

Guillermo Lariguet, CONICET–Universidad Blas Pascal (Argentina)

Doctor of Law and Social Sciences (summa cum laude) from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina. Independent Researcher at CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council). Recipient of the Konex Award for Merit in Ethics in 2016. He served as Vice Director of IDEJUS, CONICET, from 2018 to 2022, and as Associate Professor of Ethics in the Philosophy program of the Department of Philosophy and Humanities at the National University of the Littoral from 2018 to 2025. He is the author of over 100 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as 19 books in which he is the author, editor, or co-author.

In 2006, he was a Carolina Foundation Fellow at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona; in 2008–2009, a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Philosophical Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); and in 2018, a fellow at the Institute of Philosophy of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid. In 2017–2018, he was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Philosophy of Law at the University of Alicante. His areas of expertise are moral philosophy, political philosophy, and philosophy of law. He has supervised numerous master's and doctoral theses, as well as doctoral and postdoctoral fellows.
