Abstract

This study begins by delineating, along with their corresponding reasons, Guillermo Lariguet’s responses to pivotal inquiries in “Hate and Anger,” particularly focusing on the essence of hate, its intertwining with the radical right, its peril to democracy, and strategies for democratic societies to counteract it. I present a critique, detailing my divergences on his conceptual analysis, the construed link between hate and the extreme right, and his reasoning on why it poses a threat to democratic structures. My critique pivots on the argument that hate should not be leveraged as a primary analytical tool for political discourse, especially concerning the extreme right. I posit that hate is often not an intrinsic element discovered within the subject matter but rather a projection by the researcher onto their subject of study.
