First, this article will provide general information about the ASEAN and the human rights situation in this region. Then, it will dive deeper into the ASEAN human rights mechanism, particularly the two central bodies of this mechanism –the ASEAN Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and the ASEAN Commision on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC). Specifically, this article provides an analysis and assessment of the limitations of the ASEAN human rights mechanism and offers some suggestions on short and long–term solutions to improve this mechanism.
